How it Was Done - "X-Ray" Poker Table
Friday, 10 November 2006

On digg people are amazed by this simple youtube video, of an "x-ray" poker table. They want to know how it works. I can tell you without a doubt. Beneath the red fabric on the table is a rectangular section cut out of the wood below. In that rectangle is plexiglass, and below it an array of infrared led emitters. The infrared light easily passes through the fabric, and is unseen by the human eye. Above, a camera with nightshot/infrared night time viewing is mounted. Then, the guy in the control room can see what a card is when the dealer puts it over the LED are, and he radios it to the dealer, who in turn moves appropriately. Sweet trick. I must build one sometime.  Video below.

Hey do you know what kind of camera would be used. I've seen some tiny hidden IR
cameras on the Internet. Do you think these would work, or would you have to
invest in a more specialized camera?

Thanks.
