Free Alternative to GoToMyPC
Tuesday, 05 December 2006
I have discovered a simple and free alternative to expensive pay services like GoToMyPC. It is called LogMeIn. Provided your purposes aren't commercial, you can have a free account. Just sign up, install the software to the computer you want to control, and then go to another computer. Go to logmein.com, logon, click the computer's name, and your desktop should load when you click "remote," after typing in yet another code for security. It uses 256 bit encryption, and can generate the desktop via a Mozilla extension, ActiveX, html, or java. It works very well. I have found it also lets me access restricted sites from filtered networks, such as my school's, using the broswer on the remote computer. That is one feature I really  like. Currently, I use it to control my download box, which is not at the place I usually surf the net. I like this a lot!
