Screw Megaupload, Rapidshare, Sendspace! |

Ok, ok…the title is a little harsh. Those upload services are good, if you have paid an arm and a leg for a premium account. Otherwise, you are stuck waiting anywhere from an hour to a day to download your file. Then, after you wait, many times the file is deleted, and you are back to square one. Because of this, I am really sick of the various download services like Megaupload, Rapidshare, Sendspace, Yousendit, and the like! I collect Super Sentai media, and it is really hard to do because it ends up getting deleted for a week of no downloads. I have been searching long and hard for an alternative. I found a couple.
The best, by far, is Eggdisk. As a free member they give you 6gigs of space. Nowhere does the word “premium” appear on this site (w00t!). The file size limit is 150 megabytes, but if you encounter an upload that is larger than that, just use WinRar to split it up, and then upload the pieces. Unlimited folder creation and use. No file format restrictions, and the files are never deleted. 30 gigs of transfer per month.
Right now, they up your space to 7gigs if you plug them on your blog, or in forums, or somewhere. If you go further after that, and do something outrageous, they will increase your bandwidth allotment to 40gigs instead of 30gigs of transfer per month.
Another decent file service is FileCrunch. It, like Eggdisk has free membership, and it has unlimited downloads of the files you upload. The files you upload are tied to your account, and users can comment on the files that are uploaded.
I would suggest trying Eggdisk first.
One more thing: Even though they try to keep people from being able to, we can search the files that are on these upload sites (Rapidshare, Megaupload, etc…) The current best search site for these upload services is Funfail.
I think that the future is from http://www.rapidsharefiles.net because it allows you to search using not only Google, but Yahoo and a few other engines as well. Their software (located at the bottom of their page) is useful for finding goodies, and is more specific, and easier to use. I suggest using it over their website. Please note that it is in beta, though. Their site doesn't have as much as Funfail indexed, yet. Until then, Funfail is the way to go.
