I have had way to many problems lately with Vista on my HP Pavilion dv9000 (specifically a dv9250us)... Quite frankly, it is pretty, but it really doesn't get the job done. Where did I turn? I didn't go to Windows XP. I instead opted for Linux. I chose the Kubuntu distro, which is Ubuntu Linux that uses the KDE manager rather than Gnome. So far, it is working beautifully for me. I am using the 64 bit version on my dual-core Athalon, and couldn't be happier. Although there is a slight learning curve, it really is worth trying. Here are some more reasons to try it:
So go check it out! You can take a test drive without losing your current settings by downloading the iso and just running the live cd part of it. Should you choose to install, you can repartition without losing data, and the bootloader will see your Win/Mac installation automatically. I will write a tutorial sometime for my specific laptop, and post drivers as it is difficult sometimes to set some of the hardware up. That said, check it out! |
