Waste in Public Schools
Tuesday, 07 November 2006
It seems that waste in our public schools is rampant today. On top of that, it seems things other than beneficial academics are being emphasized, if you look where all the money is going. I recently heard of a small public high school in Southwest Missouri, who recently built a new building. They built everything using tax dollars. That isn’t the problem. The problem is that the budget is poorly run. The athletic department’s budget grows every year, and they always go into debt. This year, they are $250,000 in debt, with the year only half-over. Then, when you look at such departments as the fine arts, whose budget hasn’t grown in 12 years, it is a different story. They are out of money. The parents are having to fork money over to the fine arts department just to keep the choir and band going for the last part of the year. More students participate in the fine arts programs, yet they get the least money. Also, more vocational skills are learned in fine arts, since very few athletes go on to be professionals. When you come down to it, this is ridiculous, and needs to be stopped. Where are your tax dollars going? To your child’s learning, supporting sports teams that usually have the least academic impact upon your child’s life? I have no problem with athletics, I love sports. I just thought that a school’s purpose was to teach, instill academic knowledge in children first, and have extracurricular later.

Get Digital DVD Quality Satellite TV on Your PC
Monday, 06 November 2006
Updated: September 24, 2009

Currently, this doesn't work anymore due to the advent of new encryption, Nagravision 3. Find out more about Nagra3 here.

INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY!

This guide describes actions that may or may not be legal in your location. I do not advocate, condone, or practice satellite TV piracy. It is not my fault if you use this information illegally.

Should you choose to watch signals from a "bird" with pay channels, and decrypt them, you legally can only watch the channels you pay for, meaning you have a set top box hooked up to your TV as well. I suggest deleting the channels you don't pay for from the channel list in the program I discuss below, so you aren't tempted to watch them illegally. By reading below this bolded text, you agree the author, Matt Parnell is not responsible for any illegal actions or consequences you face for doing otherwise.

This is aimed at Dishnetwork, but will work with other providers. I do hope you only use channels/provider(s) you pay for, and have legal rights to watch! It isn't my fault if you break the law.

Free Will vs. God's Election
Sunday, 05 November 2006
The argument involving free will vs. election by God is a hot-button issue right now. When it comes down to it, it doesn't matter either way. We all know that God is sovereign, and perfect in all of His ways. Whatever His ways are, they are perfect, and I don't think we should question them. Whether or not He chooses us, or we are given the choice to choose Him, we should make our focal point Jesus. The divisive issues aren't something we should argue or think about. Just know both sides of the argument, believe what you want to believe, and don't argue about it. This causes division among the people that make up the Church, and division is the last thing we need in the world of Evangelical Christianity.

Dai.sy - Best Ever Extension, Now Open!
Friday, 03 November 2006
GET IT HERE!

This is better (in my opinion) to AllPeers! It reminds me of Hypernix Gooey (if you have the old gooey install file, please send a copy to admin@mattparnell.com)... But this extension will allow you to:

"> MEET your fellow website visitors
> SHARE with them any folder on your PC
> leave a BLOG for those that come After you "

Basically, it lets you chat, browse and download files p2p style, and leave notes for others who visit using the extension. It is slated to be ported to IE, Conqueror, Opera, and Safari in the near future as well. Hopefully you use Firefox, though.

I think this is the best extension ever! It is better than AllPeers, because it allows anonymity. Go get it now, start sharing/chatting/"blogging" on the sites you go to! Right now, I have found Google.com to be the most active. Lets try and change that, and make digg.com the most active site! Lets get this baby to "Critical Mass!"

Amendment I Dissected-Separation of Church/State
Thursday, 02 November 2006
 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Congress shall make no law RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION, or PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION - Means that the government cannot recognize any church as the official government church, nor can it found, fund, or support any denomination/church. That doesn't mean that everyone and everything in government has to remain secular, and that the government officials cannot use their beliefs in their actions. This means also that religious symbols in/on/around government property are NOT illegal. The buildings in DC and various state capitols have Biblical scenes, symbols, and verses engraved on them. You going to go chisel them off?

I could argue that the Masonic symbol, which is on many publicly funded buildings, and on signs stating the names of various towns across the country, is a religious symbol. Nobody would try to remove that, but if it were a Christian Fish, or the Cross, someone would scream until it got taken down.

PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE - The government cannot keep you from praying, worshiping, or any other action of your religious beliefs, provided they don't break any laws. This means you CAN pray in schools. Congressional sessions start with prayer to Yahweh, the God of Christians and Jews. People are sworn in on what? The Bible. How anyone gets away with saying anything about "separation of church and state" existing in the Constitution is beyond me. That doesn't imply that the National/State/Local governments, nor those who make them up have to keep religion out of their discussions, and daily actions
