That Time Again- Star Wars Holiday Special
Sunday, 19 November 2006

Although I celebrate Christmas, being a devout Evangelical, I am still a geek, and have a love for all things geeky. This includes the famous, or infamous, depending on how you look at it, "Star Wars Holiday Special." Originally airing on November 17, 1978 , it is known as one of the worst productions ever made, George Lucas was once quoted saying he would like to "smash every pirate copy with a hammer." This is something that will never escape the Lucasfilm vault and go to DVD. Therefore, it is necessary to pirate it. Get a copy of Azureus (arguably the best Bit Torrent Client) and use one of the torrents below.
Carrie Fisher sings (badly, to the Star Wars Theme), as well as a number by Bea Arthur, and the Jefferson Starship. We also encounter Chewbacca's family. To understand this Holiday atrocity, please read more about the Holiday Special at its unofficial site here, as well as Wikipedia

Note:I personally can't stand to watch this thing more than once a year. I post this now so that you can have the time you need to download the thing in time for December.  Happy Life Day!

All links from Piratebay:

The Best Copy is Here, (the one I use and suggest) Best quality, plus the Star Wars version of the Muppets, and 50+ old Star Wars Toy Commercials. 3.41 GB.

Medium Quality Version Here - 718 MB

Low Quality Version Here - 231MB

Interesting Open Directories
Friday, 17 November 2006
Full of eBooks! Full of other "stuff..." Some of these are amazing!

This one is full of docs related to hacking and security.

This one is full of programming, security, and other books...hundreds, perhaps thousands.

Even more programming books.

Even even more stuff. See the ebooks directory. I am not sure what the codes.zip file is

Various security and certification manuals.

Unix Books (lots)

Linux books (lots)

Archive of old Zines and stuff.

Interesting collection of "New World Order" (lol) related files...gigs and gigs of stuff....these are kinda scary!

Don't forget to look at some of the other directories on these listings. They probably contain interesting stuff too. Happy browsing! I am not responsible for you downloading documents that contain information that describes illegal actions, nor am I responsible for you downloading copyrighted work without paying for it.

Found using google. "intitle:index.of "insert desired subject to find here"

If you find any other open directories with interesting stuff, let me know and I will post it.

One More File
Friday, 17 November 2006
I forgot to post this project file. Take a look! It has quite a few plans for building the actual cabinet for MAME consoles. Some pretty sweet designs here. I will have to add some links to some other MAME related stuff later.

Some Phun Projects
Friday, 17 November 2006

Here are some files that describe some phun projects you can do. Everything from ripping Gamecube isos, to Tesla coils, to laughing gas! There is also a large rar file (70megs or so) with the manuals to a bunch of vending machines (hosted on rapidshare). Note:some of these projects may not be legal in your location. I am not responsible for your actions, or what you choose to do with this information.

With that, here are the files:

How to Build an FM Transmitter (DOC)

How to Rip Gamecube Games (RAR)

How to Make Laughing Gas (DOC) (illustrated pics 1 , 2 , and 3 from Popular Mechanics)

How to Build A Supercap Battery (PDF)

How to Build A Tesla Coil (PDF)

Vending Manuals (RAR, 60.7mb)

These are some of those projects that I always mean to get around to , but never seem to have the time. If any of you ever try any of them, send me an email/pics? I will post them on my site here. admin@mattparnell.com

.htaccess, Your Website, and You
Wednesday, 15 November 2006

For those of us who run websites on Apache, .htaccess is a very good thing. In this case, it is useful for blocking the RIAA, MPAA, and spammers. Using rewrites and denials, we can keep these scum from our websites. I have an example here , that you may want to just rename .htaccess and use. It contains all spambots that I know of, and the RIAA/MPAA ip ranges. I have also blocked some government ip ranges as well. If you need any other functions in your .htaccess file, and don't know how to do it all, see the htaccess generator.

Should you ever have a hacker or troll you wish to block, simply get his ip, and add it to the bottom of the "deny from" list. Ex: deny from "insertiphere."
